Root Canal Treatments at Vanguard Dental SolutionsPatient being prepared for root canal treatment with sedation

A root canal is a restoration that preserves a tooth from the inside out. They are used when your tooth has been impacted by conditions like:

  • Abscesses
  • Trauma
  • Dying nerves
  • Deep tooth decay

During the root canal, Dr. Rahman or Dr. Stasiewicz will remove the decayed portion of the tooth, followed by the infected nerve tissues. The inner chamber is then cleaned, medicated and sealed off to prevent reinfection. Because the chamber extends through the entire tooth, the procedure takes slightly longer than an average filling. After the root canal is completed, we will also need to place a crown over the tooth, as the tooth is now non-vital and can wear down more quickly.

Comfortable Root Canals in Alexandria

Root canals have a bad reputation for being a dental procedure that nobody likes to have done – but they really aren’t all that bad! Most of the discomfort comes from holding your mouth open for a longer period of time, but Dr. Rahman and Dr. Stasiewicz use comfortable techniques and tools to help you relax. We even offer oral sedation! May of our patients choose the sedation dentistry option as it allows them to “nap” through their root canal. Plus, you can catch up on anything else that needs to be done during the same visit.
